Offscreen Expeditions

Unique and inspirational materials to share with students, based on young people's creative explorations of the Middle East and South Asia

Welcome to the Offscreen Expedition resource bank!

The resources are all based on expeditions undertaken by young people to creatively explore the globe, and particularly the Middle East and wider Islamic world. They are suitable for use in schools, youth groups, universities, and for general nourishment and inspiration!

Curriculum booklets

This series of booklets is based on the first-hand experiences of young people who participated in two Offscreen expeditions in 2010, Journey to the UK and Journey to Pakistan. The resources expand on themes and topics explored during both journeys.

  • Contents: lesson plans, activity and fact sheets, photo sets and short films
  • Suitable for: Key Stage 3 and 4 English, Religious Studies, Citizenship and PSHE
  • Themes: include the role of the media, arts in Pakistan, exploring history, child labour and social change

Multimedia

Working with teachers and young people from the UK and abroad, the multimedia resources have been carefully developed for engagement in real-world learning, and promote peer-to-peer learning in a classroom environment.

The resources include short films and photo highlights from the expeditions, and an interactive Classroom Media Player. They provide an engaging way to learn about another part of the world, from a young person's perspective.

  • Suitable for: Various subjects at Key Stages 3 & 4 in the UK; teaching English as a foreign language

Publications

High-quality books based on the first-hand experiences of young people exploring the Middle East, and showcase their artwork and photography. Join the teams as they travel through deserts, cities and mountains, challenging their stereotypes of the region and expressing their opinions visually. Expanding on themes such as Islam and studying other cultures, they are visually strong and offer a young person's perspective which their peers will more easily relate to.

  • Suitable for: Key Stage 3 and 4 Art, Geography, History
