Things I didn’t expect to find in Saudi

We went out into the desert and the landscape was incredible: rocks sprouted out of the ground in all sorts of amazing shapes and sizes. I had never seen rock formations of that kind before. Sand spread for miles with dunes rippling over the Earth’s surface. It was like something from another planet.

The stone carvings and tombs were unbelievable. I didn’t expect to find that in Saudi. The country has a rich history, and we were lucky enough to see an amazing part of it. We even found human remains in one tomb!

Climbing the rocks was great fun, and reaching the views at the top was the biggest reward. The place was awesome. I really enjoyed getting out in the sun and doing some physical activity.

I am a graduate documentary filmmaker from Newport Film School. I love studying different people and cultures. Being a documentary filmmaker involves me going out and meeting a wide range of individuals, which I find fascinating. It broadens my understanding of different ways of life. My ideal job would be to be to travel the world meeting and documenting interesting people, and then sharing that experience to the wider public through film.

The film I am entering is a snapshot of someone’s life that would otherwise go unnoticed. The subject is an amazing individual who has a lust for life. He is an inspiration, and I believe is a positive ambassador for our society.

I am entering the competition as I would love to visit Saudi Arabia and explore potential film subjects. I love capturing the real side of life, the unseen side, and then sharing this. The fact that it will be with other artists, makes the competition even more appealing as I would love the opportunity to spend time with like-minded creative people and share their energy.
